Ruby on Rails 5.0 for Autodidacts: Learn Ruby 2.3 and Rails 5.0

The examples are explained very concisely yet clearly and the use of the console is a genius idea. The star missing here is because of the grey print from I think console that doesn't show up well.

The approach of starting every example from a base Rails app instead of a continually growing project means that you can read it straight through or use it as a reference.

I found it very useful for me as a beginner. the book could be much better if some visual items ( like diagrams, data flowcharts, figures) is added to the text so it would be easier to understand the concepts.

I love this book. Is probably one of the best out there o learn the framework if you are familiar with basic programming principles. I'm a front-end developer (angular mainly) and this book is helping me so much in understanding both ruby as a language and rails as the framework to develop web apps from the beginning to the end.

This book is great, I have tried learning Ruby on Rails and skipping ruby and i have to say this is the way to go. A great rundown on ruby before you get started on rails to ensure a full understanding. The only issue that i have with this book is that the print is very small and the code samples are written in a light gray color making them even harder to read. I recommend getting the kindle version if thats an option for you.

Great book for those wanting to reinforce their rails skills.

This is the only book that worked for me. The emphasis on examples instead of long paragraphs of text really helps you understand the concepts in a practical sense.

Decent book so far - am only part of the way in so will update after I finish or read moreProbably not good as a first introduction to programming, but found it easy to understand (and free of fluff) with years of Python / C / Java / JS / Linux etc. under my belt though have never worked as a professional software engineer or developer - just elsewhere in IT.Code seems to run okay, but some minor typos and formatting problems in the english.Printed on demand by amazon - text good and clean although margins could be a bit bigger as is easy to miss the first line of text on each page and sometimes have to flatten book to read the beginning of lines - though i guess it saves paper.Page numbers are annoyingly in the centre of the book and easy to miss due to page curvature - author / amazon - please put them on the outside or centre of pages.

This book is one of the most understandable book for ruby on rails I have ever read. The content is very clear with simple English words and codes to demonstrate usages. The information provided is very easily absorbed. It ran through most of the basic knowledge you need to know about rails and ruby programming. It is definitely a very useful guide for rails beginners. For advanced rails developers, it also provides you with new features of Rails 5.0. As for me, it really worth the money spent on this book. What do you think?

The Rails part is well-done with focus on practical aspects, though I wouldn't recommend approaching this book without at least beginner (preferably intermediate) level of Ruby.

Jusqu'à présent je ne jurais que sur les "agile web development with rails x" de Sam Ruby , Dave Thomas et le grand David !Là pour le coup je ne peux que reconnaître que ce petit ouvrage va à l'essentiel que ce soit sur Ruby ou Rails. A l'essentiel mais sans etre minimaliste.Avec au passage une reponse à une question que j'ai mis quelques heures à elucider.. precompile assets en environnement de production page 247 !Les exemples sont complets et fonctionnels.Des impasses comme sur les tests mais Sam Ruby viendra à la rescousse.Bref un concentré de rails remarquable.

Very thorough, yet easy to read, this book makes a perfect companion when learning Ruby on Rails. Great code examples! I'm hooked!
