Quite Impressed! From a cool Geek Mom!
Before I tell you why I was impressed, I want to be sure you are aware that this is...#1 A Toy#2 Only 7.9" H x 2.1" W x 8.7" D, 0.4 lb#3 Supposed to resemble the actual writing from Dr WhoI got this for my 13 year old son, who recently became a huge Dr Who fan, and is about to undergo some serious foot surgery next week. I thought this and a few other Who things may cheer him up!So many were disappointed by the size of the book or the plastic ring and the "faux" leather cover. But I read the description and knew what I was buying. The pages are extremely realistic, with scratch marks and sloppy handwriting (Dr Who himself tends to be irratic and sloppy, so this stands to reason) and hold an old worn out look to them. However, it's interesting to look at and try to decypher the words and match up events to the shows. Concidering it's "faux" leather, it's decent quality. Should it ever rip or break, it wouldn't take much from a hobby store to replace it with real leather binding and make it look that much better. I love the fact that there are so many pages! It seems to go on and on... And yet, there are blank pages at the end for writing in your own thoughts etc. I saw a post where someone paid $50 for this... I wouldn't pay $50 for it! I wouldn't pay $40 for it! I'd make one myself for that amount of money. But $22 was well worth it.There is a choice between getting this one with the ring, or the same book but with the sonic screwdriver pen instead. I got the ring because the size of the book would make it quite difficult to use a bulky pen to write it in with. And, I already purchased a regular sized sonic screwdriver so there was no need for two. However, I read the reviews about it and it seems everyone is in love with the sonic screwdriver pen - very detailed and cool looking. I highly reccomend getting that one if you don't want a plastic ring. The ring is kinda cool, but it is plastic and doesn't light up or glow. As soon as my son see's this and looks through it, I'll update this review with his thoughts on it. For now though, I think it's pretty cool!

Great for curious Whovians!
DON’T buy this journal if you’re simply looking for a notebook to write in. It’s true that there are empty pages for you to write on, but it’s only 20 pages or so. I’d recommend you get yourself a proper notebook instead of this one. DO buy this journal if you’re curious to see what’s inside.I bought this journal because I was so curious to see what John Smith had written down and drawn. I know some people have complained about not being able to read the writing, but it’s a good size! The only thing is that the writing isn’t always neat, sometimes the “s” looks like an “n”, sometimes the spelling or grammar is wrong, but I love it anyway because it makes the journal feel real and natural! There are awesome references to past episodes and major characters like, K-9, Rose Tyler, and The Brigadier. Yes, the notebook is smaller compared to the journal used in the episode, but it’s not too small. I actually like the fact that it’s smaller because it means I can carry it around and flip through it with ease. And yes, I guess you would appreciate it more if you used a magnifying glass, but it doesn’t need to be a super powerful one.As for the ring, well, after reading the other reviews here, I wasn’t expecting much for the ring. The other reviews are right, it’s a cheap thing not worth anything, but that’s okay because I’m very pleased with the journal. If you’re a Whovian who is on the fence about buying this journal because people have complained about its size (much like I was), then don’t worry! Everything is still readable and decipherable. The pages and cover are sturdy. And the journal as a whole is light to carry around.

Not as bad as people say.
I read the reviews for this item before purchasing it, and was worried about what I'd get, but I must say I'm pleasantly surprised. It is important to understand that this is a toy for children, not a prop replica. The journal and ring are both smaller than you would expect, but that's because they are child size. The quality isn't bad for a toy. The journal seems durable. Obviously, it is a toy and not a literary work, so the handwriting is a little tricky to read if you're not used to reading old journals. If you're buying this to READ, you will be frustrated. If you are buying it because it's an awesome Doctor Who toy that's just fun to have around, you won't be so terribly disappointed. The ring is plastic, and could work fine for cosplay or whatever if your hand is small enough. It would also look fine sitting in a collection if you can't afford one of the actual replicas.I've paid more for much worse...and if you've ever purchased other products by Underground Toys, you can expect that this is of equal quality. It's not as bad as people are saying. Just be aware that you're buying a toy and not a replica.

Pretty cool
The book looks quite realistic and is fairly true to what you see on TV, although it is smaller than it looks in the picture. Also, after about a year of general use, the paper in the area it is bound to the fake leather started to peel, but rubber cement makes an easy fix. The ring is altogether different. It looks like cheap plastic, it feels like cheap plastic, it is cheap plastic. It only fits on my little fingers. The book is good, but the ring is a cheap extra. DO NOT GET THIS JUST FOR THE RING.

A dir poco bellissimo

Super... sa collection Doctor Who s'aggrandit...
