Pantocrator is a Greek word referring to one of the names of Jesus Christ. One of the more common translations of Pantocrator is "Almighty" or "All Powerful". The image of Christ Pantocrator was one of the first images of Christ developed in the Early Christian Church and remains a central icon to this day. This particular rendition is of a 6th century icon and is the oldest known rendition of the Christ Pantokrator.
