Soft Skiing: The Secrets of Effortless, Low-Impact Skiing for Older Skiers

Good but needs more pictures.
Lito is a great teacher and does a very nice job of visualizing the slopes for you with his imaginative writing style. His approach to describing his technique, which is akin to that of Harald Harb's Primary Movements Teaching System, is simple and engaging. However, what struck me as unusual with this book is that there isn't adequate use of pictures/illustrations. The line drawings included in this book were somewhat useless-- they didn't portray any detail and were more of window dressing. "Soft Skiing" would have benefitted from photos or more detailed drawings rather than several continuous pages of explanation in some areas. All in all, yes, much of what is described in his other great book, Breakthrough on Skis, but it's nice to have something written especially for those of us who aren't looking to rip a double-black and meet the half pipe at the bottom. Lito appealed to a niche and I hope he has much luck with it.

Lito does it again
Lito has written another great instructional book on skiing. One of his earlier books, Breakthrough on the New Skis, lifted my skiing to a whole new, higher, more enjoyable level. This book reiterates many of those same points but in an even more effective way for us "older" skiers. His instructions are so clear, you can feel them while reading them. I would HIGHLY recommend this to anyone who wants to ski more and work less.

good instructors will teach you this
Explained well, logical sequence of learning skills, good instructors will teach you this, but if you can't afford them, this book is a must

Nice narrative, but super light on content
Honestly the instructional content in this could be reduced to a couple pages, and this whole thing is very short and well spaced as it is. Disappointing.

Opens wide door of sublime skiing pleasure
Author ultimately conveys a philosophy by his method of interacting with your skiis. The subtle anticipatory movement provides such a sublime connection to the mountain that by its own character is command of the experience. His book by same title compliments the process. What pleasure this knowledge brings to skiing.

ski for life
Great book for any recreational skier. It tries to teach you about relaxed skiing. How to use the energy in the hill. Especially good for the older less athletic skier.

Takes 200 pages to say little
It's long on descriptive stories, but short on presenting the mechanics, technique, and graphical diagrams to explain how to get the best from modern skis with shaped edges vs what we learned for the old long, straight style.

You don't have to be old for this to work for you.
As someone who came to skiing late, I did not start until I was 58, I used Lito Tejada-Flores first book, "Breakthrough on the New Skis", as my bible. Combined with some good teaching, by an Instructor who thought much the same way, I managed to learn to ski reasonably well. As I now 80 I thought that Soft Skiing might offer me some new insights and indeed it does. The simple exercises are good news and the concise explanations of how to take most of the effort out of skiing are easy to understand and easy to do. I think it will carry me forward for some years to come. My only regret is that I never got the chance to have a lesson with the great man himself.
