Q: What does it mean it's 14 count?

It's the number of threads per inch. 14 count means if you count 14 threads across this fabric that will cover 1 inch of material. The higher the count the smaller the threads and holes (because you have more threads in the same amount of space). You can figure out the size of your finished pattern this way, or figure out what thread count you need based on how big you want the finished product to be. A pattern that is 140 stitches wide will be 10" wide in 14 count fabric (140 stitches / 14 threads per inch = 10 inches). That same pattern will only be 6.36 inches wide if you use 22 count fabric (140 stitches / 22 threads per inch = 6.36 inches)
