Bicycle Official Rules of Card Games

As I put in a comment to one of the previous reviews, the United States Playing Card Company website used to carry this content online; the full rules to many (but not all) of the games in this book. However, they no longer do that; probably because they want people to buy this book! So, if you are looking for the rules to many different card games, you will have to buy this book. And the reason I say "have to" is because The Official Rules to Card Games is more extensive, detailed and [probably] accurate than Hoyle or the Penguin Book of Card Games. Seriously, this book is well-written and useful not only for seasoned card players looking for an official interpretation of a minor dispute between friends, but also is written simply enough and in plain enough language to be able to learn ANY card game in it by just reading its description and full rules. There are also the rules and caveats to the many different variations of various games it describes--such as Gin Rummy: it has all the major variants of regular rummy listed and explained so one can play virtually any variant of any major popular game in the book. Not all of the games contained therein are "popular" these days, but most of them are. The sections on Bridge, Whist, Poker (and so on) are detailed enough to learn these games, but without confusion for new players.I recommend the Bicycle "Official Rules to Card Games" over any other book on card games, any day. And it's been around since 1885 (so says the cover), the current edition being the 90th edition, published by THE authority on card games (i.e., the People who produce the plastic-coated cards with which these games are played, not just a secondhand authority like Hoyle or the Penguin Book). Great!

We are enjoying have this reference both to learn some new card games and for a quick review of rules and scoring on lots of games.

I gave this to a friend as a gift. The thing with card game books is they never are all that easy to understand at times. However, from what I'm told, this one has some really good helpful illustrations to make the instructions easier to comprehend

As I had already seen a friend's copy of this book, I knew what to expect. The rules are thorough and complete, and there are hundreds of card games included in this handy reference.

This is a time-honored source of information. It is complete, clear, and thorough. Unlike many different books of "Hoyle", it describes the rules of the games the way I generally play them. It doesn't pretend to cover "all" games - just card games. My edition arrived in excellent shape.

This is a good book on card games, with interesting histories of many games and clear rules for playing. However, I do not recommend that you buy the book directly from Amazon. The book clearly states on it that the MSRP is $7.99, which is a reasonable price, but Amazon is charging $43, a 500% markup. Get it elsewhere.

I gave this book to my grandson who is in the Tennessee reserves & going to Iraq for a year. I also gave him 2 decks of cards. I thought he might have some free time & he might use the cards with friends & maybe need to look up rules or how to play some of the card games.

Great book have you forgot all those Army card games you once played Spades, hearts, hand and foot etc even solitaire great easy to follow guide for your old time fav game

Bought a second copy for a course I teach in games design.Rules are clearly written, games are catalogued well and it's easy to choose a new one to explore (family of games, number of players, level of complexity, and level of skill vs. chance in the game). This really is an excellent tome for card games.

I like all the games you can play in it

I like that this book is semi-compact, so easy to handle and carry around if need be. Also, the content is amazing! It has all the classic great games in it.
