Excellent Information for Those Wondering IF They Should Retire
As someone approaching retirement, I realize I don't want to retire. Most of my friends are retired and I confess, their lives appear boring to me. What do they do all day? I'm lucky to have a fantastic job with purpose and the ability to use my knowledge to guide and help people. The author really hits the nail on the head in identifying people's reluctance to say they do not want to retire. Will friends and family say, "What's wrong with you?" Our society idolizes retirement, and the author points out what is missing from most retirements -- things that are available with a job. Luckily, our society is allowing more part-time work for those who want a partial retirement and to still be able to use their skills. This book is the best I've read on non-financial considerations before retiring, and I consider it a must read for future retirees wondering what they will do all day. Bravo to Mr. Walton for a well researched and written guide.

The author is 100% correct
Recent studies show that workers ages 75 and older are the fastest-growing age group in the workforce, more than quadrupling in size since 1964.Mark Walton has long been a champion of those individuals that choose not to retire. He recognized this trend toward “unretirement” long before others, and has closely studied the personal characteristics of those that live happy lives, while never retiring. He states in his book, “ as a knowledge professional, you’ve structured your life and built your career with your mind, rather than muscles, you may find it difficult, if not impossible, to power down your brain and be content with a lifestyle that does not inherently provide the kind of challenges and stimulation to which you’ve become accustomed.”I find Mark’s insights to be profound and I consider his book a “must read” for all those contemplating retirement.

An Invaluable and Unique Book That Tells It Like It Really Is!
The author has nailed it - retirement is not for everybody. In fact, as he says, "for some people it can turn out to be a really big mistake." For more and more of my friends and business associates, continuing to work in our 60's and beyond is the only way to go, even if we can afford to call it quits. This book explains why - we are living longer, better and healthier than our parents or grandparents and we continue to have so much to offer. Why squander this on the golf course? The neuroscience in the book proves that our brains remain highly capable as long as we continue to use and challenge them. Bravo, I say: read this book and live happily ever after!
