A Favorite
Peter Cronin is hands down my favorite watercolor paint artist. This is a wonderful book - clearly written, concise, well detailed, with fine images of Peter Cronin paintings. The only watercolor book I want, and likely the only one other readers and watercolor painters, from beginners to advanced, probably need. Delightful!

Beautiful technique
This is a great coffee table book. Beautiful paintings with follow along instructions show you just enough to appreciate how good the artist is. :)

Clear detailed instruction. Wonderful book
This is now my favorite watercolor book. Just what I needed after several years of floundering trying to teach myself. Many clear directions with many photos. Thank you, Peter Cronin! Highly recommend

A guide to creating pure watercolor landscapes that the medium is so suited for without gimmicks.
I loved this book. The techniques and materials were clearly explained for creating the exquisite atmospheric water colors for which the author is known. Well written with smatterings of personal anecdotes and humor.

Not a great tool for a beginner.
As a beginner, I personally like watercolor books where I can paint "with" the author. In this book, the artist stresses the importance of sketching your subject, but the sketches shown are just way too light to be of any value to the reader.

Quality book - paper, photos, color, printing
Author breaks down the stages of watercolor paintings - plenty to choose from and try for yourself. Lovely resource. I especially liked the from photograph to sketch section then from sketch to painting. Valuable information for me personally as that is one of my goals to learn.

A wonderful guide to learn how to develop pure watercolour paintings ...
Very grateful that Peter Cronin took the time to share his approach and experience with watercolour with others. A wonderful guide to learn how to develop pure watercolour paintings that maintain the luminosity that is the unique characteristic of this medium.

You CAN teach an old dog new tricks!
As an experienced leisure watercolourist, I was pleasantly suprised to learn so many new techniques from this book. I suffer from that ailment that plagues many watercolour artists…that of fiddling with my work and putting in too much detail. Peter Cronin has a simple 3-layer technique that has really helped loosen up my work more than any other book I own. As with most instructional books, there are several pages dedicated to materials and basic techniques more suited to beginners, but then the author really gets into the ‘WHY’s’ instead of just the ‘how’s’ and out of all my extensive library of watercolour books, this is the only one that I have read from cover to cover. His clearly understandable explanations, his down-to-earth humour and his refreshing simplicity and humbleness are a wonderful change from all those instruction books that go down the rabbit hole of long, complicated ‘arty’ words that make them such a pain to read…or the ones that go from basic techniques immediately into complicated and stunning works of art that just overwhelm and intimidate you into giving up before you have even attempted the project. Peter’s gentle, clear and patient instructions fill you with the confidence that yes, you can do this, and fill you with the inspiration to grab that sheet of paper and your paints and give it a go right now. Wonderful!

Can’t stand alone
I really like Peter Cronin, his homour and his writing style but this book is not for complete beginners. It can’t stand alone. BUT it is good and in combination with the YouTube videos by Oliver Pyle you are in good hands. Recommended but with a but.
