New Age "Pablum"
This is, unfortunately, one of the more common books these days suggesting that "everything is easy." The author's main theme is that turning ideas into reality is easy. He states that, "Thoughts are things," noting that everything that has been created by human beings started out as a thought. This is true. However, his idea that "Thoughts are things" makes it seem as though the transition from "thought" to "thing" is easy. It's NOT. A more accurate phrasing would be, "Thoughts CAN BECOME things." Literally thousands of people have ideas, but, for every 10,000 people who have ideas, maybe only one has what it takes to turn his or her idea into reality - a "thing." Most people, frankly, are too damned lazy to make the effort that is required to turn their "thoughts" into "things."He further tries to make his claim that turning "thoughts" into "things" is easy by asking you to think about successful people. "Are they smarter than you? Are they more deserving? Have they paid greater dues? No." He then adds, "The good news is that such people are proof that anyone else can do the same (be successful)."What he fails to mention is that the reason successful people are successful is because they do three things that the vast majority of people are unwilling to do. First, they work their butts off to make their dreams become reality - sometimes putting in 50 and 60 hours a week, week after week, month after month, year after year.. Second, they are persistent. They refuse to give up. Most people quit at the first sign of hardship. Successful people refuse to quit. Third, they are focused. Most people can easily be distracted by other things in life. Successful people are focused like lasers on their goals. THIS is why they are successful.I have been a very successful business magazine writer for 45 years. Not only have I survived the really tough times and persisted through all of these hard times, I have often put in 50 and 60 hour weeks to make things happen. Believe me, the 45 years were not easy. They were rewarding, but they were NOT easy. Furthermore, I have interviewed literally thousands of successful business people for articles in these magazines, and every one of them succeeded the same way - hard work, persistence, and laser focus.Unfortunately, these "hard life realities" and hard work requirements don't make it into the "everything is easy" New Age books like this one.
