Perfect!
Wow! Perfect!! Although it’s an older model analog TV converter, it was brand new, never used. I bought it to replace my old one that gave out - took 10 seconds to hook up, another minute or two to scan channels, and it was ready and works perfectly! I have other brands of analog converters, but this specific RCA one is easier to set up, easier to use, and works great.

Terrible remote - reception isn't that great either
I bought this because it works with ReplayTV (IR code- 0566 or 7911) and I was tired of paying cable for broadcast channels plus on demand. When I set it up it does get over 120 channels coupled with the flat antenna RCA ANT1400R. However you have to stand inches away from the box with the remote and then press REALLY hard on the buttons to get it to work. Often times holding down the button causes multiple signals to be sent to the unit making it do whatever you wanted more than once (like hitting down will go down the list multiple times rather than just once). It makes it sooo frustrating and sometimes causes you to select something like channel scan when you wanted to an "add channel scan". So if you do a channel scan and had already done it and do it again without adding it erases all of your previous scanned channels (not a problem if the remote worked better but can be annoying).I also find that sometimes when channels are found and clear on my LED Samsung 20" this unit will have reception issues (I'm using a splitter so I can switch between them).Unfortunately even though I just got it Amazon will NOT let me return it but the nice woman at customer service did give a refund. But I don't recommend it at all. I'm going to try the Digital Stream DTX-9950 since I heard that works with ReplayTV.

"ugh!" becomes "ooh!"
I just needed simple, for my late 90's digital Zenith TV, which I'd now like to use in my kitchen. Some pretty good reviews convinced me to go with this item. I always make certain to purchase new products. This particular time, I'd meant to order new, and mistakenly purchased used. My device did not come with remote, nor user manual, and -with a few nicks in the product- was wrapped in bubble packaging, with no product box. Upon returning online to complain, I'd discovered description confirmation of the missing items; so, I cannot complain, because receiving this waste of money is my fault. I can not get it to do anything with my television, and I am so irked that the effort to even try to return it infuriates me. If I buy the remote separately and it still does not work, I may just go all Carrie at the prom. Please pay attention when making your purchases. So, how many stars do I give this purchase? It is physically as described, and it powers on. Because I can not determine if it does what it's supposed to do, two stars should do.September 7th, 2017 update:So, after taking a chance on ordering the remote control that would come with this device -if it were new- the remote arrived wrapped the same (in an envelope, no box, no instructions). Fortunately, the remote works well, showing me that the converter also works well. There is no need for instructions, and no need to synch anything. My box and TV are in harmony. Channel scan was easy. I like the way TV show names are listed along with each channel, before making a channel selection. I'm happy. I've decided five stars should replace my previous remoteless rating of two stars.

Does the job
I bought this to try out the concept of "cutting the cord" with my cable company, and it worked quite fine. My older tv did not have the digital tv circuitry built in so I needed this external device. I bought it along with a paper-thin antenna that hangs on the wall (also on Amazon.com), and was able to watch all the low-number regular tv stations and a variety of others including a couple with movies, cooking, fitness and health-related programming, all in English, and several others in Spanish, Hindi (one channel of the two seems to play nothing but Bollywood films!) and, I guess, Mandarin. The fact that I can watch all of this for free is what needs to be underscored. There is no cost to watching digital broadcast tv. And because its digital, the picture quality is at least as good as cable, if not better, so long as you have pretty good reception on the channel you're watching. If you don't, you'll see the freezing and jerking that we've probably all seen watching a video on YouTube when it isn't getting the data fast enough. It seldom happens here. The interface on-screen is the only real reason I marked it down from 5 stars. I'm an Apple guy, I'm used to a really fine user interface, and this is NOT that. It's a little confusing (am I going up or down?) and seems a bit 90's tech, but the device, overall, does work well and has convinced me that for someone who wants to reduce their life's focus on the TV but not be cut off from the world, and to save a bundle of money in the process, this just seems the way to go.

RCA DTA-800B1 DIGITAL TO ANALOG CONVERTER
I purchased two RCA DTA-800B1 Digital To Analog Pass-through TV Converter Boxes as replacement spares for my existing RCA DTA-800B converters. When I tried to set up the converters, they would not complete the channel scan. Both units would only scan about 70% and then freeze. Pressing the Menu key as recommended on the screen display to stop the channel scan only caused the converter to shut down completely. It then had to be powered down and back up in order to start over.I would consider this model of Digital To Analog Pass-through TV Converter to be completely unsatisfactory. My older RCA DTA-800B Digital To Analog TV Converters, without pass-through, have worked very well.If anyone has found a way around the channel scan freeze up problem, I would be very interested in learning how to deal with it. The manufacturers manual was of no help.Work-around solution found. Please see my next post 9-30-12
