Excellent cartoons. DVNR a little excessive though.
I love Woody Woodpecker. He may not have as much depth as other cartoon characters, but he is hilarious nonetheless. This DVD set is also proof that major corporations other than Warner Bros can release offensive vintage cartoons on DVD without ruining their public image, and there are some entries that are quite offensive. (Disney, you should learn something from this.) Anyways, the picture quality is decent but the cartoons look milestones better than unrestored color cartoons that look brown from severely washed out colors. The use of DVNR, can range from moderate to severe in some cases, but I doubt people who don’t know about it won’t notice. (I sure didn’t until all the backlash on Tex Avery Screwball Classics Volume 2.) If you are aware of DVNR, it’s quite noticeable. However, for me at least, having 75 uncensored cartoons is really worth it, even if DVNR is used, as long as it doesn’t come close to the severity of certain Turner prints of Tex Avery shorts. I highly recommend.

Great Collection and more!
Walter Lantz was one of the earliest animators and created many cartoon characters however his biggest star was Woody Woodpecker. These are the first 45 cartoons of Woody Woodpecker. The first Woody was rather ugly! However is best about this collection is besides 45 of Woody there are 5 Oswald the Rabbit but not the 27 that Walt Disney directed. There are 5 Andy Panda cartoons, also. The bonus features include Walter Lantz. A great collection from Walter Lantz! A must have for you animation junkies. A very good transfer to DVD with great sound.

This is how all classic cartoon collections should be done.
Some of the Woody cartoons are 80+ years old, and the and some of the "and Friends" are nearly 100! They are still funny and entertaining, and the coloring / animation have been touched up to perfection, without losing their classic quality. I've bought some cartoon DVD series that were simply .mp4s burned to writeable discs, with no thought or effort in their production. This is not one of those collections at all. It's a high quality product made with care.

I missed watching these cartoons I grew up seeing on live TV.
These cartoons rarely show and I love that I can see them again. This is a wonderful collection of great cartoons by Woody and his friends. I am very happy I found this through Amazon and was able to purchase it. I love seeing them all again.

Teaser for future volumes? Time will tell...
Without getting into the DVNR debate...this is a fantastic collection of cartoons from the Walter Lantz Studios. I do not recall seeing many of the cartoons here (especially those of Woody in his early incarnations), so alot of surprises were in store for me. Also, the quality is great...as this is the first Woody collection purchased by me in any format. Lord knows many of us have had to suffer with faded prints of early Woody cartoons over the years (public domain?). Pantry Panic comes to mind. Great to see Drooler's Delight again. The bonus features are great and very informative, and the only things missing here are audio commentaries...something we've all become accustomed to in light of other recent collections. There are cartoons missing here as well, but perhaps if this sells well, there will be at least another volume released. I'd like to see all of the Maw and Paw cartoons, Maggie and Sam (aside from Crazy Mixed Up Pup-included here) and Space Mouse, as well as any mid 1940's Woody toons that may have been omitted. I watched The Woody Woodpecker Show religiously as a kid...and have no idea how the children of today would react to these. I grew up loving them and still do. Great value here!!
