If you are looking for a product that won't turn dark hair into bright orange here it is. I have bleached on and off for 30 years and this worked better than anything I've ever used, including salon visits. I started with jet black with a dark purple overcast on top of natural dark brown hair with a few small patches of gray on the top and got this on a 25 minute first try. My hair is well known for not lightening easily so I'm stunned at how well this worked. It did leave it a bit dry but it was slightly damaged to begin with. I did not use heat and did not use the enclosed cap. Be sure you have a good conditioner because it does not contain any in the package.The mix will be very runny at first, keep stirring and it will get very thick. I mixed with a plastic fork then used my gloved finger to help mix the powder clumps and it ended up a perfect consistency.The reviewers that complained of watery mixture did not stir it long enough, I admit I started to panic at first but I kept stirring for a few more minutes and it thickened perfectly. I will assume that if you don't stir enough it won't work right because people who complained that it didn't work also complained it was watery. Keep mixing and you will see it works great. It just takes a bit longer to thicken than some other products.Also, common sense tips: keep this stuff off your skin and scalp or it WILL burn, apply at tips first, then work your way up, never start at root area because it will lighten too much and leave you with much lighter roots and darker midsection and pale tips.**Take your jewelry off before you use this product because it WILL cause a painful reaction on your skin if it comes in contact with it.**xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxUpdate: I just purchased it again, for the 4th time now. I purchase it every 2-3 months and it has never let me down yet. This is now the ONLY bleach I will use now because it has proven itself to me time & time again. Just make sure that you spend enough time stirring it so it will thicken properly and make sure you have a good conditioner to use after you finish your treatment, coconut oil is great too.I started with natural dark brown (some gray) coarse damaged naturally curly hair and my hair is in much better shape after the bleaching treatment than before. That is hard to find!My Personal Tips:I usually rinse it and immediately apply a good conditioner (I like to use Argon Oil Based Conditioners or Deep Conditioning varieties of any brand- nothing too fancy or expensive) mixed with heavy amounts of color (punky/manic panic/colorXchange/joico- Blues, Purples, & Pinks, I do the Mermaid effect) immediately after, while it's still wet- and let it soak in for a few hours to overnight and I get silky hair and amazing vivid color that lasts at least a month or more.But just a note- I have been using one bottle per application until now but my hair is now past my shoulders so the next time I buy it I will need to use 2 bottles. If I was doing my entire head this time there would not have been enough.Also, I have been using Rockabilly Blue & Punky Purple lately and when it starts fading and the blue turns to green or the purple starts looking looking blackish and I want to speed up the process and get it out, this product (Lightning) removes it for me within a couple minutes so it will remove old color and there is no need to take an extra step to remove your old color if you are using temp/semi-perm colors with the products/brands I mentioned above. I have never used permanent colors so I can't vouch for that.Based on my experience with this item it is a true 5 star item and I don't hand those 5 stars out very easily. As I noted in the title, I am 63 years old and have a mix of medium brown hair on top and in the back, whilst having gray hair in the front and on the sides. My hair is a pixie cut, and I have used this product for two years. I usually bleach it about every 6 weeks, but sometimes that stretches to 8 or 10 weeks. Since everyone has different colored hair these days, it doesn’t really seem to matter if some brown creeps in for a while!Setting up, mixing up the powder and liquid and applying it to my hair takes about 45 minutes. Once in/on my hair, I leave it on my head for about one hour to one hour and 15 minutes. That can be very damaging for people my age who have dry hair, so a workaround is to apply Argan oil to your scalp directly before bleaching the hair to protect the scalp and allow you to leave it on longer if you have medium or darker brown hair and want to achieve a bleached blonde look. Definitely use the enclosed cap and gloves and wear an old T-shirt to apply the bleach.The other thing I’ve learned is to rinse out the bleach using very lukewarm to cool water in the shower. After rinsing it out, I first apply a very thick and emollient conditioner. Punky makes one called intrabond conditioner that works great. Then I do two washes with an equivalent mix of regular shampoo and conditioner together. I follow that up with another 3-5 minutes of the intrabond conditioner before I complete the process.No matter what you do to preserve and protect your hair, bleaching it is a terrible thing to do!! I love the look so I’m willing to accept some breakage and not worry about it. However, my hair is pretty thick so please keep that in mind.This is a great preparation for turning your hair some wonderful colors. I have turned my hair pink, purple and blue at various times using punky products. The good news is that if you are bleaching to color your hair something bright and fun with punky, you can go right ahead and do that immediately after bleaching, washing and drying it. Punky is very protective and actually will help your hair look and feel a lot better after bleaching it.I hope you find this helpful. My last tip is to buy the two boxes set of level 30 bleach because it is better value than buying them individually. Level 20 might not get you where you need to go bleach wise, and Four is just going to eat your brain. Stick with 30.

These kits come with everything you need and have clear instructions about how to use them. The gloves can be reused for putting color in your hair as well if you wash them off.

I have dark hair, and after one sitting, I realized that this worked well. I thought I would go full blond, but I didn't, so four starts. It is still recommended for anybody with dark hair.

I have short wolf cut hair with roughly 2.5 months of root growth. (Around 2 inches of regrowth id say) and this box was JUST enough to cover my hair. I just wanted to retouch my roots to blend in with my already light beige dyed hair. I realized I have thick hair. This product is a good cheap solution at home that lightened my black hair to a good like level 8 or 9 blonde. And then a note to others so they know and wont repeat my mistake, get a toner to apply after because the bleach will make your hair a yellow blonde.
