It looks the part
I am torn between 4 and 5 stars. I like it, it looks good, but it does not look like excellent quality. I am concerned about durability based on other reviewers, so we will see. My wife did not like it initially, but she has warmed up to it. The ring is perfect, not too loud, not too quiet. The audio quality is good and it is easy to dial.

A cheerful accessory, not strictly necessary...
But lovely to own.Memories of the Cold War, with press photos of the red phone on the President's desk; the Nuclear Option, come flooding back along with the feeling of the seriousness, importance and need for economy once attached to making telephone calls. This retro replica can go neatly with a decor that reflects a cosier time, one when the sound of the bell meant something had happened, there was real news to shared, appointments to be made and kept.On the wall it looks impressive indeed. Holding the handset to the ear and speaking into the receiver is a pleasure, the springy lead stretches just enough; no doubt it will soon be squiggles and curls to undo with a long twist back into shape. Of course it is lighter than the original version which necessarily had a lot more gubbins inside. You write your telephone number on the paper sticker (don't you wish you could do that on mobiles, I still don't know what mine actually is). 999 is shown as the Emergency Services, 100 for the Operator (is she still there?)I loved the brown parcel label with GPO on it, attached by string. Pressing the buttons is quick and efficient, once you remember that in the UK we use TONE not Pulse...

Looks good, sadly not digital compatible
Looks great, very retro. This is the 2nd one we have. The 1st worked great for years, however what ever bt have done to the digital signal caused interference on the line and the line is unuseable, after numerous bt checks they said it was the phone, so replaced with new identical phone and the interference was the same. In the end replaced with 2nd hand cheap bt wall mounted phone and the line is perfect now. So these GPO retro phones are style over substance I'm afraid. I've got 2 stuffed in a box going down charity shop now.

It's OK, but...
Well, it's not anywhere nearly as good as the original 741. The photos make it look convincing enough, but in real life... it prompted me to look up images of the real 1970's phone, and I can't help but feel a little disappointed in myself for not doing more research before my purchase.Firstly, and not that this matters much, it feels very lightweight compared to the one we had at home when I was growing up. More importantly, the shell looks just a bit too shiny and there are some sharp moulding marks on the top, where the receiver is replaced, that ought not to be there. The ring tone (a real bell) is quite disappointing; it's rattly and lacks the confident sound produced by the 70s model.Appearance - it looks convincing enough at first glance from a distance, but the font on the buttons is totally wrong - not nearly Modern enough, and this really spoil the effect. There are too many buttons as well (a * and a # have been added to the 0 - 9 actually needed) and the numbers go all the way around the dial, whereas on the '70s model the 1 is at the "two o'clock" position, and 0 is at "six" - and there was a gap between them. The finger bar is just moulded into the disk; it isn't prominent enough to look right.I'm not sure if the buzz on the line is to add authenticity or just my broadband filter box not working, and when I speak I can hear too much of my own voice in the ear piece. So, in all, it's OK. Functional, just about; a bit of fun. But it really could have been so much better if the designers had taken a little more time and care to make it at least look more like the 741 it is based on.

Retro wall Phone
I bought this because it looks just like the one I had forty years ago. It seems strange to use now (without the keypad in the handset) but it is a good looking phone and the big chunky handset is actually better to use than the little ones I've been using for the last umpteen years. Having the earpiece to the ear and the mouthpiece in front of (as opposed to "in the general area of") the mouth means less ambient noise to muck up the conversation. I am very pleased with this.

A real phone at last! (review amended see below)
Looks great, like my Mum's 1970s phone. It has a proper ring tone - hurray! The cradle is secure, no more receiver falling off the wall. The only fault is the over-loud bleep when you are dialling out. It's a great way of training your memory, too, because this phone doesn't have one!I must amend the above review. After some weeks the buttons on the cradle started to stick down, so the phone kept ringing, even after I lifted the receiver. Also the number 8 button became almost non-functional and had to be pressed several times to work.I sent for a replacement phone recently but oh, dear! The ring-tone adjustment button on the new phone did not work at all, as it was loose. The new phone also had rubber feet, which prevented it from sitting snugly on the screw fixings. The screws were so far out of the wall that the phone was virtually swinging from side-to-side.
