Magnets
I got this magnet set for a 9 year old boy - he loves it!! He spends time building and experimenting with the magnets. I would not suggest it for little kids - but even from 5 on up it is well worth the cost. And one interested in magnets this is a great beginning kit - lots of different items to do things with. He has a wonderful time with it.

Pointers Getting Suspension Spindle to Work Well
I’m a physicist who spent over ten years developing high-speed magnetically levitated flywheels. I just needed a marked color magnet so bought this kit for next day delivery. I noticed that someone had trouble levitating the spindle because a rubber band was missing (any small rubber band will work). But another thing to be aware of is that the 4 stationary magnets may not stay fixed in the base (with pole orientation all pointing the same direction). Slipping a couple sheets of paper when the magnets are pressed into the base will help tightly secure them (see photo). And the magnets need to all be pressed all the way down, at the same height. Also, playing around with the axial orientation of the magnets on the rotating spindle makes a big difference in the stability of the unit (rotor spindle magnets need to also point the same direction as base). I like teaching physics and think this is a fun little package for children to explore, and recommend it. An interesting “thought experiment” is to visualize the magnetic flux field lines (think of the orientation of the iron filings by the bar magnets). This helps to understand how the spindle stays levitated (by imagining the field lines); and why the spindle is only stable with one point fixed (the pin-spindle interface). Otherwise, the stationary magnetic suspension here is unstable.

Good Magnet Set for Home School/Remote Learning
This year for remote learning, I decided to supplement some of the material by providing hands-on learning for my second grader. I remember as a kid being given a kit of magnets similar as this to play with and it helped me understand how magnets work. This kit is very durable; my five year old accidentally dropped the horseshoe magnet on our hardwood floor and it survived with no visible damage. The iron filings take a bit of practice to be able to show the magnetic field but it is possible (we used the straight magnet). The circle magnets work as you would expect except when using the levitation portion. We found that we need four rubber bands and they only supply three. Due to this (as seen in the attached picture), the device is drawn to the side instead of levitating in the middle. This is the only part of the kit that does not work as expected. All in all I would recommend this kit to anyone who wants to give their child hands-on education on magnets. Your kids can explore alone or with your assistance, as the kit is durable for elementary aged hands.

Weak magnets
Magnets are not strong at all. My son was disappointed.

Perfect for elementary science experiments, but tiny
The whole box could practically fit on a dollar bill… it is literally that small. The compass is about the size of a quarter. There is a lot of over spray when the magnets were painted, but the magnets seem plenty strong- definitely stronger than an average refrigerator magnet. This is a perfect set for my homeschooled first grader!

Great kit
This worked great for my daughter's science fair project.

Shortened on material
The image in the description and also in the instructions received with the product showed almost a full thing of iron filings. What I received was not even half. It's not even enough to conduct the experiments that are shown in the instructions. Very disappointed.

impressed
This little kit really surpassed my expectations. We do remote learning and I needed a magnet before the next morning. Options were limited and although I was looking for a cow magnet, this kit looked interesting so I took a gamble. Despite the price, nothing in the kit is cheap. It comes with instructions for a few different experiments, which the kiddo thought were really cool. The horseshoe magnet is weaker than I would have expected, but the ring magnets stacked together seem to have the same amount of force as a small cow magnet. So glad we took a chance on this, it had what we needed and so much more. These will be a go-to for years to come.
